Princess Lizzy's Murgency

“Princess Lizzy’s Murgency”

“Mommy, Mommy,” called Princess Lizzy as she got in the car after school, “I know all about murgencies.”

“Oh, you do, do you,” laughed Mommy. “What did you learn?”

“If someone gets sick... or hurt... or you see an accident... or a fire,” said Lizzy all out of breath, “that is a murgency!”

“Yes, you are right about that. All those things are “E” mergencies.”

“Well, then you have to call the “E” mergency place,” said Lizzy. “Then….they will send someone to help, like a fire truck or ambulance or a policeman.”

“Yes, you are right about that, too,” replied Mommy. “But, do you know how to call the emergency place?”

“I sure do!! You pick up the phone, push the 9 button, then you push the

1 button TWO times,” answered Princess Lizzy. “That makes 9-1-1! Then you very carefully  tell the murgency place what happened AND where you are.”

“Wow! You do know what to do and say,” said Mommy. “I am very proud of you Princess Lizzy.”

Lizzy just smiled her great big smile.

Once upon a time there was a young Princess named Lizzy. Everyone loved Princess Lizzy because she was so kind and loving.

One day when she went to school, there was a new little girl in her class. Princess Lizzy noticed at recess; the little girl was standing all by herself on the edge of the playground crying great big tears.

Princess Lizzy walked over to the little girl and asked why she was crying. The little girl told Lizzy she was crying because she didn’t know anyone and didn’t have anyone to play with.

Princess Lizzy took the new little girl by the hand and said, “Come with me. I will take you to meet all my friends and they will love you, too.”

Princess Lizzy and the new little girl became forever friends, and they played happily ever after.

“Ahchoo! Ahchoo!” sneezed Princess Lizzy, quite loudly. “What was that!”

“Sounded like a sneeze to me, Lizzy,” said Mommy. “Perhaps you should stay home from school today.”

“Oh, Mommy, I can’t do that!” said Lizzy very excitedly. “I can’t miss a day of school. All my friends would miss me and even my teacher would miss me.”

“You don’t want to make your friends and your teacher sick, do you?” asked Mommy.

“No, I don’t want to make them sick,” said Lizzy very quietly, looking down at her feet.

“I’ll call the school and let them know you caught a cold,” said Mommy.

“Oh, no, Mommy. I would never catch a cold. The cold caught me! ” insisted Lizzy.

Mommy just laughed and gave Lizzy a hug as she tucked her into bed.

Princess Lizzy and the Cookie Crumbs

“Princess Lizzy and the Cookie Crumbs.”

“Let’s go on a picnic,” said Mommy.

          “Oh yes,” giggled Princess Lizzy.

“I’ll make lunch. Lizzy, you get a big blanket for us to sit on,” chuckled Daddy.

Princess Lizzy, Mommy and Daddy walked down the street to a lovely park. They had been there many times before.

They each ate a wonderful sandwich, some special chips Mommy had bought, and washed it all down with grape Kool-Aid.

“Would you like to finish off lunch with a great big, soft sugar cookie? asked Mommy.

“Oh, I love sugar cookies!” squealed Lizzy.

After a bit, Lizzy noticed the crumbs from her sugar cookie were marching across the blanket. She followed the cookie crumbs. They marched over a stick and around a large rock. When they came to a small mound of dirt, the cookie crumbs disappeared down a little hole.

“Mommy, Daddy! Where are the cookie crumbs going?” said Lizzy excitedly.

“Look closely and you will see the crumbs are being carried away by tiny ants,” said Mommy.

“Ants can carry things that are much larger than they are,” Daddy said. “They are taking food home for everyone to eat.”

“Well,” laughed Lizzy, ‘I guess they are going to have sugar cookies for dessert!”

          And, so they did.

Lizzy Learns about Good Friends ©

Lizzy Learns about Good Friends

March 8, 2025

When one of our granddaughters was about 3-4 years old, she went through the "Princess" phase. All girl moms and dads know what I'm talking about. She and her parents lived a few hundred miles away, so we didn't get to see her often. I started writing short stories, using her (Princess Lizzy) as the main character.

This is one of those stories. My son suggested I put all the Princess Lizzy stories into a children's book, which I actually have done. There are two Princess Lizzy books. Lizzy isn't a princess because she's rich. Lizzy is a princess because she has a huge smile and a bigger heart. Please enjoy. If you like the story, let me know and I have others to share.

I have copies of both books should you want a signed copy. I am able to sell them less expensively than if you purchased them from Amazon.

“Lizzy learns about good friends”

“Mommy, can I go to the new girl’s birthday party tomorrow?” asked Lizzy. “Her name is Sarah.”

“Sure, did you get an invitation?” answered Mommy.

“She said I didn’t need an invitation, but she wanted me to come after school tomorrow” replied Lizzy.

“Ok, but walk straight home after the party,” said Mommy.

“I will, thank you!” said Lizzy with a squeal.

The next day, Lizzy walked in the house looking a bit sad.

“What happened Lizzy, why are you home so soon?” asked Mommy, with a worried look.

“When I got to the party, Sarah said I couldn’t come in, because I didn’t have an invitation. Why did she do that Mommy, when yesterday, she asked me to come? Everyone laughed at me. I thought they were my friends.”

“Sometimes, when people move to a new town, they are looking for friends. You have

more friends than anyone around. She may have thought if she didn’t invite you, they would be her friends instead.”

“We can all be friends,” sniffed Lizzy. “There is enough of me to go around.”

“Once Sarah knows that everyone will be her friend, too, she will be okay,” said Mommy.

“I hope so, Mommy, cause it makes me feel sad,” said Lizzy in a small quiet voice.

Mommy gave Lizzy a great big hug and Lizzy smiled her great big smile. Mommy’s hugs work magic like that you know.

The next day at school, Lizzy’s friends ran up to her and told her how much fun they had at the birthday party, but they had really wanted her to be there, too. They said they were sorry for laughing at her, but they thought Sarah was just teasing Lizzy. Her friends said they wouldn’t play with Sarah any more.

“Oh, no,” quickly replied Lizzy, “Please, don’t do that.”

“But she was mean to you,” replied Lizzy’s friends.

“She thought that all of you couldn’t be my friends AND her friends at the same time,” said Lizzy. “All we have to do is show her that ALL of us can be friends. Then, I’m sure she won’t do something like that again.”

“Are you sure?” asked Lizzy’s friends.

“Well, Mommy said it would work,” answered Lizzy, “and she knows about things like that.”

“Great! Let’s go find Sarah and let’s ALL play!” yelled Lizzy’s friends, who were now, by the way, also Sarah’s friends.

“Now that is what good friends do,” giggled Lizzy.

Princess Lizzy crawled up onto the couch to sit by Daddy. She looked at her feet and realized they were dangling in the air.

“Daddy, my legs aren’t long enough!” squealed Lizzy. “They don’t touch the floor!”

“Well, stand up here and let’s take a look,” said Daddy. “Look at that! They touch the floor when you stand up.”

        “Oh, they do!” said Lizzy.

“As you get taller, your legs will keep getting longer so you will always be able to touch the floor,” snickered Daddy.

“That is a good thing,” said Lizzy.

“I would not like to grow up and not be able to reach the floor."

Princess Lizzy Loves to Read

“Princess Lizzy Loves to Read”

“Daddy, will you help me read?” asked Princess Lizzy.

“What would you like to read, Lizzy?” asked Daddy.

“Well, I love to read stories about animals…,”said Lizzy.

“Okay, we’ll read a story about animals,” said Daddy.

“But, I love stories about the stars and planets, too Daddy,” said Lizzy.

“Okay, we’ll read a story about the stars and planets,” said Daddy.

“But, I love stories about famous people that used to live,” said Lizzy.

“Okay, we’ll read a story about a famous person that used to live,” said Daddy, getting a bit anxious.

“But, I love stories about dinosaurs,” said Lizzy.

“My goodness, Lizzy!” exclaimed Daddy. “What do you want to read about?”

“I love to read all the stories, but my most favorite stories are the ones I get to visit far away places in my mind,” answered Princess Lizzy. “Place I’ve never been. I can pretend I’m there having all sorts of adventures and meeting new friends I haven’t met yet.”

“That sounds wonderful. Let’s read an adventure and go somewhere we’ve never been before,” said Daddy, a bit relieved.

Lizzy sat down next to Daddy and smiled her great big smile….and they read… and they dreamed.

“Princess Lizzy and the Smile”©

One lovely, sunny day, Princess Lizzy was playing at the park with her friends. They were running around, sliding down the slide, swinging on the swings, laughing and having a great time.

Lizzy noticed a couple getting out of a car with a little girl.

“May I go play with the little girl?” asked Lizzy. “I’ve never seen her before.”

“Yes, you may go meet the little girl and play with her if it is okay with her parents,” said Lizzy’s Mommy.

Lizzy ran over to the little girl, “Hi, my name is Lizzy. What is your name?”

“Je ne parle pas anglais,” said the little girl.

“Oh, dear. I didn’t understand what you said,” puzzled Lizzy.

Lizzy pointed to herself and said with a great big smile, “Lizzy.”

The little girl pointed to herself returning the same big smile, “Cherise.”

Lizzy, wearing her great big smile, pointed to the slide and the swings and then looked at Cherise. Then Cherise looked up at her Mommy and Daddy. Both were smiling and shook their heads “yes” at almost the same time. Cherise looked back at Lizzy and Lizzy looked back at Cherise. They both started giggling!

        “I understand that!” squealed Lizzy.

She took Cherise by the hand and they ran around with Lizzy’s other friends, slid down the slide, swung on the swings, laughed and had a great time.

When it was time to leave, Lizzy and Cherise gave each other a big hug and waved bye knowing they would see each other again.

When Mommy asked how she and Cherise were able to talk, Lizzy replied, “We didn’t. It is easy to understand laughs, giggles and smiles, Mommy.”

Yes, and Mommy knew that, too.
